Our special projects come at a significant cost.

 

Wheelchairs: We are collecting used wheelchairs around the central Minnesota area. We are most in need of customized pediatric chairs. Please contact us to donate. Donated wheelchairs will require replacement parts which come at significant cost. We will also need to purchase some new wheelchairs which cost $700 each at a minimum.  

 

Bath benches: In 2019, we developed a prototype for a reclining bath chair made from PVC that costs $130 each (compared to $1000 when commercially bought). We are currently in need of at least five additional bath benches, totaling $650.

Therapy providers: We are currently sponsoring a local Jamaican to serve as a therapy provider at MOP's largest children's home. We provide her training as well as her salary.

Bed positioning wedges: Due to the nature of many of the residents' disabilities, they require specialized wedges and pillows for positioning them appropriately in bed.  We are committed to providing these materials as needed and providing training to assure they are used optimally. 

 

Our funds are also used to buy supplies needed to assess clients physical and cognitive status and to develop appropriate therapeutic activities. For example, we have purchased therapeutic swings and mounting materials and created weighted blankets and crash pads for each pediatric home. We have also developed therapy manuals for training the caregivers.

Our goal is to keep administrative costs as low as possible. All of our work is done on a volunteer basis. In addition, we do not use money donated to the organization for personal travel expenses.
